DIY platform bed.

DIY platform bed.

I moved in to a small studio apartment, my goal was to create a cozy sleeping area with about 1/2 of the space available with a TV on a swivel to point at my living room area.Getting started,

Getting started,

I used deck hardware to secure the 2×4’s to the wall studs, i could have just made it standalone. But this was much more secure. (this entire project was done with 2×4’s, Plywood, 2×2’s and 2×6 lumber. Fastened together with wood screws. All covered up.

All covered up.

covered with plywood…Platform complete

I ended up connecting the bottom legs together with 2×4’s for added stability.Decided to make it a canopy bed....

Decided to make it a canopy bed….

At this point i started going a little crazy with random ideas and trying to implement them… The canopy was accomplished with 15 dollars of 2×2 lumber.pardon the mess

pardon the mess

Kinda messy here, but its the only photo i have of how it sat in relation to the living room area. (bed construction occurred during the week I moved in)Covering the storage area,

Covering the storage area,

Used plywood to cover the sides, the last piece ended up on a hinge for easy access to storage.Finishing touches

Finishing touches

Wallpapered the sides and added a step for access. (also my dog is old and needed it to get up) You’ll also notice i covered the platform with shag carpeting.Finished!

Finished!

cheap indian tapestry from Ebay and a 50 inch LED screen (hidden on the left)… oh and some LED strip lighting… The TV is mounted on a lazy susan swivel so that I could turn it towards the living room area.
